When I first told Miguel that I was pregnant for the third time, his first words were “We need a new car!”

Ok, ok, he obviously said other things first, but I swear this statement was uttered a few sentences into our conversation. Looking for a new family vehicle didn’t even come to mind until AFTER Miguel mentioned it. Clearly, we have different priorities.

2017 Ford Escape

He was right though, we would need a new SUV. Currently, we are driving the 2015 Nissan Rogue, which we really enjoy and it has been such a great blessing for our family! However, with another baby on the way, we are in dire need of space.

I’ll be the first to admit, I have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to purchasing a vehicle. I like what I like and any questions regarding transmission, engine and horse power can be found on the Ford Website. Miguel is the car guy, I’m just the mama that drives it.

This got me thinking, what are some features that moms look for when buying a new family vehicle and how does the 2017  Ford Escape come into play?

Features

So, I did whatever any curious mom would do and crowd sourced on my Facebook! After almost 100 comments, here are just some a few of our “must haves” features:

  • Keyless Entry
  • Push to start button
  • Back up camera
  • Remote Trunk Release
  • Bluetooth
  • Space to fit both rear facing & forward facing car seat
  • Space for both stroller & groceries
  • Charging port for smartphones
  • Fuel Efficiency
  • GPS
  • Blind spot information system
  • Crash Test Rating
  • Comfortability

I cross referenced our “must haves” on the Ford Website, and to my surprise, the 2017 Ford Escape checks off all the points and more. Bonus: Optimal Space at the driver seat for this ever growing belly.

You will also notice that “speed” was not mentioned above but the 2017 Ford Escape does come equipped with a 6 speed Automatic Transmission with Paddle ShiftersUsing race-inspired technology, the steering wheel-mounted paddles provide an engaged driving experience by letting you easily and quickly go from gear to gear without taking your hands off the wheel. Fancy stuff!

Overall

Even though, we had the 2017 Ford Escape for only 1 week, I was sad to part ways with it. It was surprisingly easy to drive, spacious, and the features (so many amazing ones) made life so much easier for this mama. I personally fell in love with the capless gas tank funnel and the foot activated, hands-free power liftgate. If I had to add one thing it would be an optional third row.
Our family is going from a family of four to five. We all have different needs and wants. One thing we can agree upon is that we want a vehicle that would be amazing for road trips and for making memories.  The 2017 Ford Escape is definitely a contender on our hunt for a new family vehicle!

What are some features that YOU look for when vehicle shopping?! Do you have a favourite SUV? Are you a Van person? Let me know in the comments.

  1. I’m currently loving my minivan, but before that, we drove an SUV. And I have to admit, when we drive back to Alberta in the winter (or when Vancouver gets any snow), I miss my SUV. 🙂 We’re expecting baby #5 and I’m also wondering if we’re going to need a new vehicle… though hubby doesn’t like that idea. I’d like to test drive some vehicles, just to see. 🙂 Thanks for sharing your experience!

I forwarded this to Bruce, he’s had such a hard-on for the Escape! Lol.. as long as it has Air-conditioning, windows that roll down and can fit my jogging stroller, I am good! Bruce has so many wants/needs.. he’s the picky one!

  3. Ford certainly doesn’t skimp on the creature comforts and tech features these days. All their cars are so well-equipped!

Space was a big one for us as well as family recommendations. We ended up going with the same make as both sets of parents drive. Its served as well.

The GPS is important to me. I drive all over the place to various rinks and ballparks in the burbs and usually have no idea where I’m going. I could use my phone, but it eats up my data and drains the battery.

  6. Patricia

This is a good looking SUV!! Safety features and space are definitely key for me!

  7. I used to drive a Ford Escape and loved it! I actually had two Escapes before we had to move on to a bigger SUV. A great SUV with great safety features though!

  8. Rachel Loza

We have a ford escape and I LOVE it. We have a ford focus as well. It’s a 2011 but we leased a 2016 escape and I really do adore it!

  9. Hannah Kaup

I am avan person, but I think in 10 years we will get a large SUV when we’re done having kids.

  10. Anna Strazi Thompson

We’ve been looking for a new vehicle too for some more room. I used to own a Ford Escape back in the day and I really liked it. We will have to check out the new ones.

I love Ford Escapes! Such great SUVs. And, I totally agree with that must-have list!

We are on the hunt for a new car too! Space is a MUST!

We are looking for more space too! I’m impressed with the look of this Ford.

That looks like such a great car! I’ve always loved the Ford brand and it makes a great family car.

Ford has done such an amazing job with their infotainment system. It’s one of the best out there and my favorite part of their new vehicles.
